Review Of Logitech MOMO Force Feedback Racing Wheel

July 17th 2008 18:09

MOMO is one of the world’s leading designers of automotive accessories for the track and the street as well as being the official partner of the American Le Mans series. They have collaborated with Logitech to produce this wheel, with their input being most noticeable from the shape and design of the product inline with their own designed steering wheels for sports cars.

On opening the box the first thing you will notice is the sturdy, rubber gripped sports car-style wheel. This looks stylish in black, with red buttons and the yellow Momo logo on the front. The ergonomics of this wheel are excellent, with the grip being comfortable and easy to hold. The rubber extends right round the wheel which is useful for those who drive with obscure hand positioning.

For added realism, Momo has added a superb design feature in the form of a sequential gear stick, similar to those in a modern rally car, which can be used if preferred. This gear stick can be attached on either side of the wheel to suit your individual taste. This is useful especially for rally games where you can use the gear stick as in real life.

The quality of the workmanship even goes as far as the pedals supplied with this wheel. The whole unit is constructed from durable plastic, and has a superb carpet gripping mechanism on the underside to prevent slippage. The pedals themselves are bottom-hinged and look sporty with the holes drilled through them. The weighting of the springs on the pedals is superb. The accelerator is lighter than the brake, as you would expect. The brake pedal actually gets stiffer the further you push it down, which gives a very realistic feel.

One thing that really amazed me was how smoothly this wheel steers. Also, the force feedback effects are strong enough for you to feel the road accurately, yet not too strong to rip your arms off. The pedals also have just the right amount of resistance in them, allowing the driver to really feel how much power he is applying, and carefully adjust easily.

This wheel uses a superb triple clamping system to attach itself to your desk and is quite heavy so you can be sure that if you get too caught up in the excitement, the wheel will not move from its place still.

Conclusion:
Designed by the racing professionals at MOMO, the full rubber wheel, stick shifter, and racing pedals feel just like the real thing. And with advanced force feedback technology, you will experience the road like never before. Excellent force feedback effects and the choice between gear stick and paddles give excellent realism.

Overall:
If there is a need for speed, than nothing is better than the Momo. Strap yourself in and drive into the action!
