LCD Monitor
Monitor is an important output device without which a computing machine is incomplete. Back in the olden days computer operators used to get output through punched cards, that used to show us result of a calculation.
With the advent of a display screen we could see output in real time, what ever we did on a machine. It was major step towards development of portable sized monitor screen that could be used in personal computers.
The Cathode Ray Tubes (CRTs) where the first to appear in the market. The technology was not new and was already being used in TVs and other monitoring devices.
The concept of PCs came into existence when we had small sized monitors incorporated in a CPU and keyboard for input. This allowed people to buy PCs in large numbers. IBM was the biggest market player and one of the pioneers in developing personal computers.
Since then technology just got more and more advanced. Every few years the integrated circuits got smaller and smaller and PCs got more compact until laptops were developed which allowed the advent of Liquid Crystal Display (LCD).
Larger LCDs also got popular which were used with PCs and now we have LCDs every where and it will soon make CRTs extinct. Although several monitor technologies have also developed alongside, but LCDs are the most popular types of monitors.
Currently other types of monitor, The Plasma Screen Monitors are also becoming popular. Who knows soon we will have new technology that will change the way we see our machines working. May be something in the 3D.
Although the above mentioned monitor technologies are the primary ones developed, there are several other types of monitors that have enhanced the video output.
Here are the types:
1. Cathode Ray Tube Monitors
2. Liquid Crystal Display Monitors
3. Plasma Monitors
4. Light Emitting Diode Monitors
5. Surface Conducted Electron Emitted Display Monitors
