Today's lets discuss on a gadget that has been around for a while now and is popularly known as an 'Energy Saver'. Well technically these bulbs are not really called energy savers it's only that their quality of consuming less energy than conventional bulbs have made them popular by this name.
These bulbs are actually called 'Compact Fluorescent Lamps' and it has the technology that has replaced the conventional incandescent lamps all around the world. These bulbs are a bit expensive as compared to the conventional incandescent bulbs but they consume much lesser energy, producing the same amount of light. They are also quite durable and can last for more than 2 years.
This is the beauty of these bulbs. In many areas there are also problems of low AC voltage on main line, this makes the use of tube lights and other bulbs impossible but the, energy savers can work on voltages as low as 170V (for countries having standard voltage as 220V) .
These bulbs work on a simple mechanism in which the phosphor coating inside the bulb's coil is lit using ultraviolet energy. This ultraviolet light is produced by the electric current form main line which then going through a simple electronic circuit produces this light. The ultra violet light passes through the gas in the tube and then lights up the phosphor coating.
Constants advancements have been done in this technology to improve the working of efficiency of these bulbs, no doubt these bulbs are one of the major technological innovations in saving our precious energy.
