Electricity With Hot Dry Rock Technology

February 17th 2009 17:50
A Turbine

Humanity has developed to an extent that in this modern world we cannot actually survive without the use of technology. Every gadget that exist around us make our life easier and with out them we can get frustrated or may be mentally sick. But of all these technologies, the mother technology without which we cannot even imagine to live is electricity.

Although it is a form of energy but I called it technology as all that is being done to make this energy useful for us is a part of electric generation and supply technology. If this system fails or is not updated we may actually run out of electricity and we all know we cannot do anything without it.

Electricity can be generated from a wide variety of method of which the Hydro electricity is considered to be the most environment friendly, safe, efficient and long term form of electric generation method. There are numerous other methods that have been discovered so far but the ones used presently are mostly not environment friendly and depend highly on Earth's natural resources. There should be methods that can be enable us to develop renewable sources of energy.

The Bio-fuel is the best method that has been so far successful but still it requires progress on a large scale. Another such method that needs attention is the "Hot Dry Rock Technology". The method is simple and is based some what on the natural geyser system on the Earth.

In this technology water is moved in to granite rocks deep under the Earth's crust. Since the rock deep under the crust is extremely hot, the water absorbs this heat turning it self into heat. These vapours of water develop pressure as they are trapped with in the narrow channels of the granite rock. When this pressurized steam rises back to the production well, the energy of this steam can be used to run turbines allowing us to generate electricity.

This method is a good source of renewable energy and can be put to good use but it requires proper attention.
